Today in P.T. Anderson and The Weinstein Company's world of hype: a new clip from "The Master," in which Joaquin Phoenix identifies some very graphic images in a Scientology-esque test.
Phoenix plays a disciple of Philip Seymour Hoffman's Lancaster Dodd. Dodd is a cult figure ostensibly based on L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Church of Scientology. In the newly released clip -- available above -- Phoenix is asked to describe a series of images printed on cards. Phoenix's identifications are sexually explicit and grow increasingly graphic.
The footage, which the Alamo Drafthouse said was cut by Anderson himself, is the latest in a long line of nimble and alluring trailers and released to promote the film. A special sneak preview of the movie will take place Sept. 10 at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz.
