Dominion Virginia: Power Should Be Restored To Nearly All Customers By Thursday Night
Oct 31st 2012, 10:55

All Dominion Virginia Power customers, "with very few exceptions," should have their electricity turned back on by Thursday night, the Richmond-based utility said.

The company expected all of its out-of-service customers outside of Northern Virginia -- the state's hardest hit area -- would have had their electric service turned on again by Tuesday night.

"Dominion employees, retirees, contractors and crews from other companies are fully engaged in this effort, and work will continue around the clock until power is restored to every customer affected by this storm," Rodney Blevins, the company's vice president of electric distribution operations, said in a statement.

Log Cabin Republicans' Mitt Romney Endorsement Prompts Los Angeles Couple To End Membership
Oct 31st 2012, 12:00

WASHINGTON -- The Log Cabin Republicans have been important in Kevin and Don Norte's lives. They run a blog called "BlogCabin: Our Life As Gay Republicans," and their affiliation with the group is mentioned in the second line of their Wikipedia page. They figure they've been members for about a decade, with Kevin winning a "Grassroots Leadership Award" from the group in 2009. At one point, Kevin served as a California trustee, and Don was on the board of the Los Angeles chapter. A fellow member was one of the best men at their wedding.

But on Oct. 25, Kevin and Don tweeted from their joint Twitter account that they were leaving the group: "@LogCabinGOP Please accept our resignation from #LogCabin effective immediately." The reason? The group's endorsement of Mitt Romney.

"Leaving them is kind of like a divorce," Kevin said sadly in an interview with The Huffington Post that night.

'Red' Album Sales Hit 1.2 Million For Taylor Swift
Oct 31st 2012, 11:26

NEW YORK -- Taylor Swift's new album is called "Red," but its true color is a brilliant platinum. The 22-year-old sold 1.2 million copies of her latest album in its first week – the largest sales week for any album in a decade.

Nielsen SoundScan confirmed the blockbuster sales on Tuesday night. "Red" marks Swift's second straight album to sell more than 1 million copies in its first week; "Speak Now," her third album, sold a little over 1 million copies when it was released in 2010. She is the only woman to have two albums sell more than 1 million copies in its first week.

TOKYO -- A major airport in northern Japan reopened Wednesday after bomb squads barricaded the area around an unexploded bomb from World War II.

Flights resumed at Sendai Airport after military troops worked through the night to pile sandbags around the 250-kilogram (550-pound) bomb, which was uncovered during construction near a runway two days earlier.

Presidential Polls: Barack Obama's Ohio Lead Holds
Oct 31st 2012, 11:45

WASHINGTON -- With less than a week remaining before results are counted, the presidential race remains remarkably close, with President Barack Obama maintaining a very narrow lead in most polls over Republican nominee Mitt Romney in Ohio, the state whose outcome could well decide the election.

A new Ohio poll released on Wednesday morning by CBS News, The New York Times and The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute showed Obama maintaining a 5 percentage point advantage over Romney in Ohio, the same margin as on a previous CBS/Quinnipiac survey conducted in the state two weeks ago.
